A clean sheet of paper
This story not only reflects on dancing and attitude but a little bit about life
in general. It was told to me about 25 years ago during a management class I was
attending. Along with many other ideas it has stayed with me each day since
then.
It really isn't a story but more of a statement.
Each day when you awake and dress you imagine taking a sheet of paper out,
writing "I am a nice person" on it, and pinning it to your shirt
front.
Well, when you look out the window and find it's raining and the forecast called
for sunshine a little of that paper gets torn off. The next upset may be some
burnt toast or bad traffic and bingo, more of the paper is gone. If your day
sometimes goes along like mine that piece of paper gets pretty ragged by bed
time. This pretty much happens to everyone but the trick is to start with a
brand new piece of paper with "I am a nice person" on it each day. If
you don't, and put the same old scrap of paper out front for all to see, the
nice person is before you walk out the door.
This ALSO relates to dancing in that it still is the best way to approach life
or another night out or any situation. With your best attitude pinned up front
for all to see!
I think, for the most part, we all want to be like that. Sometimes I find it
very difficult to keep that paper there all day but, it's always easy to wake up
and put a new one on. I just open the blinds in the morning and look at what has
been given to us.
Just think about it: "If it ain't fun, YOU are not doing it right!" (Don't try to pin it on your partner...)
