Hello Dancers,
Thanks again to all who came out to our dance last Sunday. The weather was
miserable out side but nice & dry indoors. Too bad we don't have inside
parking. We were very happy with the effort everyone put into the two
lessons. We have so many great dancers in the lessons now. It make our job
much easier. This Sunday we will wrap up the West Coast Swing month with a
basic WCS lesson at 6:30 followed by a more advanced move at 7:00.

No special events (Showcases, Grand Openings, etc) this week that I am aware
of. However there are many great studio parties, a Tidewater USABDA dance
and the Tidewater Swing Dance Club is going on their first road trip also
this weekend. This area is rich with dance possibilities from Shag to Latin.
Check out our web site for detailed listings. Send us links to any we have
missed.

This week I am starting an addition to the newsletter. It's an idea I
borrowed from Dave Moldover, (Dance Jam Productions
Dave@dance-info.com )
who puts out a great newsletter from DC. I will be posting a "Dance song of
the week" along with comments.
***********************************************************
This week the song is "Mm-Mm Good" by Joyce Cooling & Al Jarreau. This is a
great WCS running about 96bpm. It is one of ten songs on her "Third Wish" CD
put out on the Verve label by GRP. It's available on the internet and most
local stores. To hear some from each cut click on this link
http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/grp/product.asp?pid=9330 The guitar work is
from Joyce Cooling and on this cut only vocals from Al Jarreau. The keyboard
work and producer is Jay Wagner. It will keep you your feet moving.

Dance to the music:
This concept was brought up before but since I'm into dance music tonight...
Do you want to be a better dancer? Don't think of music as just a beat to
dance to. Make your dancing flow with the music. Music makes us want to
dance and is something everyone can connect to. Most people only tap their
feet to a song but we dancers can be much more expressive. We can, but do
we? Every dancer's favorite, Fred Astaire, could really dance to the music.
His movies can be rented for bargain rates. Pick one up and really watch his
body, arms, head and facial expressions while dancing. That's musical
interpretation. Keep this in your mind while you dance. I know, it's tough
to be expressive during a nice smooth foxtrot but think about where you can
add your "special" steps. If the guy feels it in the music the lady does
also and will appreciate the added touch. When you get up for a WCS or Tango
you can really spice up you dance routine. Just adding a little at a time
will soon improve your dancing.
