Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

May God Bless our Armed Forces. They need our prayers and support.
*******************************************************************
Thanks to the dancers who came to our last dance. Please pass the word about
our dance on Sunday night. We are encouraged that we have so many dancers
who are interested in all forms of couple dancing. We are still trying to
introduce social dancing to even more people.
This week we will teach a basic Waltz class at 6:30. At 7:00 we will teach
another Cha-Cha move. Next month we will feature Country Two-Step at the
second lesson.
*******************************************************************
As some may know, we are now teaching beginner dance classes for the
Chesapeake Parks & Recreation Department. We hope that all of our students
will continue with dancing and enjoy it as much as we have.
*******************************************************************
The song of the week is a Samba. The song is "Samba Tranquille" by Thievery
Corporation. The song is an instrumental and a little over 3 minutes long.
We found it on "The Mirror Conspiracy" CD under the ESL Music label. It's a
pretty good dance song with a very predictable beat. You can hear the song
as well as others on the CD by clicking on this link.

*******************************************************************
Coming up next week on March the 29th is the "A Time to Dance" Spring Ball.
The Ball is being held at the Norfolk Sheraton Waterside. Doors open at 7:30
and the dancing continues until 1am. They have gone all out for this dance.
I understand the dancers will have the entire ballroom not just a part of it
to dance in. The music will be provided by "Salsa Y Mas" which is a thirteen
piece Latin band. During the breaks Rick Hockman will be playing dance
music. To top things off we will be able to watch a professional Latin Dance
Show. This is going to be a great party. Click on www.ticketweb.com for
tickets. They are $24.00 each.
*******************************************************************
Please plan to attend "A Party for Life" Cancer benefit dance held at Doug
High Studio on Sunday the 23rd...all proceeds go the American Cancer
Society.... The Music is by Roberto and it is from 4-7pm.
*******************************************************************
Keep checking our web site. We have a dance friend who will be providing
information on local competitive dancers and planned trips to competitions.
Also there is an upcoming Country Western and Swing event held on Mother's
Day weekend in Northern Virginia. We are going, and have brochures with us.
*******************************************************************
Dance Awareness,
I am amazed at the number of couples out dancing who are completely
oblivious of their surroundings. I feel that a good social dance couple
should be constantly aware of those who are dancing around them. A good
leader needs to learn enough way to maneuver around a crowed floor without
causing collisions. Just as there are those who cause accidents an the
highways there are those who cause accidents on the dance floor. Leader or
Follower, what kind of dancer are you?
1. Do you walk out on the dance floor into the path of another couple?
2. When moving slow do you stay toward the center of the floor?
3. When traveling down line of dance do you stop to dance a stationary move
when another couple is dancing right behind you?
4. Does your lady alert you to a possible collision by a gentle squeeze of
your hand?
5. Do you alter the size of your steps to suit a crowded floor.
6. Do you know enough "emergency steps" to help you maneuver around trouble
spots?
7. Do you plan your lead far enough in advance to avoid panic in the
corners?
8. Do you apologize it you bump someone? And accept an apology given by
others?
9. Do you consider a dance floor your personal race track and other dancers
as your competition?
10. Do you respect your dance partner enough to make the dance enjoyable or
are you too busy hot-dogging?

Both partners need to pay attention to each other but also need to be aware
of others on the dance floor. We seldom have the entire floor to ourselves
and should learn to put more of the social back into social dancing.
*******************************************************************
See you out dancing...

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
