Hello Dancers..
Thanks again to all the dancers who come out on Sunday night for our social
dance. We appreciate the effort on our behalf to keep the dance in
operation.
Last week the dancers at our Sunday dance took a basic Rumba class and then
an advanced Two-Step class. This upcoming week, Easter, we are not holding
a dance. The following week, April 27th, the 6:30 lesson will be on
beginning West Coast Swing and for the intermediate dancers we will cover a
more advanced Country Two-Step move at the 7:00 lesson.

The song of the week is a great Foxtrot presented by Dean Martin. Although
included on several albums, the song "On The Street Where You Live" is
recently re-released on the collection "Swingn' With Dino" This album has
several great Foxtrots that will make you want to get up and dance. Follow
the link below to hear a clip of all the songs on this album.

Dance Floor Etiquette
Most of us know the general rules about keeping to "Line of Dance" but if
you are unsure ask someone at the next dance. In general, LOD is a series of
several ovals (or circles), moving counter-clockwise around the dance floor,
with the fastest moving traffic on the outside of the dance floor, and each
inner circle moving a little slower. All stopping, should be maneuvered to
the center of the dance floor, before stopping or making unexpected changes
in the line of direction. Check out the dance floor LOD diagram posted on
our web site
http://www.twosteptidewater.com/dance_tip1_line_of_dance_and_dance_floor_eti
quette.htm
Sometimes there are several different dances going on at the same time on
the floor. C/W dancers experience this while competing for space with line
dancers. But the same thing applies when we want to dance WCS to Foxtrot
music.
One big aggravation on the social dance floor are those who want to try out
their showcase or competition routine on a crowded floor. This not only
bothers the other dancers but hurts their showcase or competition dancing.
You can't perform that routine to it's best if you practice when you are
surrounded by other dancers. If you must dance complex routines in a social
setting try to make them adaptable enough to avoid problems. It's
interesting to watch the professional dancers out on the social dance floor
they look great but never seem to make waves.
Another problem on the dance floor is the lack of common courtesy. Any
courtesy used in public applies even more so when out dancing. If you
encounter a new person in the club or studio at least introduce yourself and
speak to them. When there are beginner dancers on the floor try to work
around them and avoid getting upset when they are in your way. They have
other things on their mind. When asking someone to dance do so politely and
after the dance be sure to thank them.
Dancing is a partnership and when it comes to maneuvering around a crowded
floor both the man and woman can help out. The man can vary the moves used
according to the density of the crowd. You would be surprised how "small"
you can dance. Even on the crowded floor the man can set up the dance to
avoid trouble areas. All men need to learn several emergency moves to
quickly lead them away from a collision. Most ladies enjoy a varied dance
routine but not to the point of colliding with other couples. The ladies can
also help out by paying attention to the lead when the floor is crowded. She
can also look out for up-coming collisions when the man is "Backing Line of
Dance" and give his hand a squeeze (or a sharp tap on the shoulder) to alert
him.
