Hello Dancers,
Our Sunday night dance starts again this Sunday after a break for Mother's
day. Again, we thank all the dancers who come to our social dance each week.
For those of you who have not made it to our dance I'll put in a little
background this week. Each Sunday night we rent a Ballroom studio from Chuck
Wills,who owns "A Time to Dance" studio. We host a social dance each week
where couples can dance to Latin, Ballroom, Swing and Country-Western music.
Chuck also holds his own great studio parties at the same location on Friday
and Saturday nights. The studio has a good wood dance floor that is never
too fast or slow. The studio is clean and comfortable with good acoustics
and a smoke free ballroom. We start out with a beginner lesson at 6:30. The
lesson is on a different dance each week and lasts for 1/2 hour. At 7:00 we
have another 1/2 hour lesson for dancers who want to learn a little more
complex material. Each month we pick a different dance and teach it all
month. The dancers who attend are friendly and try to make newcomers
welcome. Judy spends a couple of hours each week preparing some nice snacks
and drink to put out. In addition to chips and dip she will cut up fresh
veggies, sharp cheese and summer sausage. She also puts out some cookies,
sodas and a bowl of lemonade. We try to use only popular music and rotate
the playlist each month. As amateur dancers Judy and I do our best to make
everyone comfortable and enjoy the night out.
This week the early lesson is on Night Club and the second lesson is another
West Coast Swing move.

The song of the week is Cuban Mambo by Xavier Cugat. The song was recorded
in the mid-fifties when Mambo was HOT! Although Xavier Cugat was known as
the Rumba King this Mambo sizzles. I like the big band Latin music from that
era and when it gets going my feet do too. To hear a clip go to the

dance and move your feet to that and many more great dance songs.

few overbold attempts at feats for which the performer is yet poorly
prepared"
It sound like good advice on obtaining skill. The question is who am I

Judy and I just returned from the Easterns, a great C/W and swing event held
each year at Tyson's Corner. This quotation was in some material I was
reading one night. It reminded me of when we were competing. We would always
remind ourselves to remember this and that when we were on the floor. Well,
it never worked. When we finished the routine we had no recollection of what
happened. When performing, you are so focused on so much you need to rely on
skills that are ingrained by countless hours of practice. We favor social
dancing now but the rules of learning are the same.
