Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers..

Judy and I had a good time with the dance and lessons last week but this
week Judy got to sit around more as there were a couple extra lady dancers.
We appreciate everyone who comes to our dance on Sunday night. If you
haven't made it yet please try this Sunday. If you like to be around social
dancers who have fun dancing that's us.
***********************************
Last week the Cha-Cha basic class seemed too easy for everyone. We will try
to tinker with the format if we get some ideas from the dancers. Please
comment if you wish. Then as a contrast maybe the WCS move was a little
tough. This week, by request, we are teaching schottische which is a partner
pattern dance. Lucky for us Cherie Harclerode knows the dance and offered to
teach it. Come out Sunday and learn along with us. At 7pm Walter & Judy are
reviewing last week's WCS move and adding another.

Song of the week:
This week we are featuring a Two Step. "Don't Stop by Wade Hayes is a good
tempo up-beat Two-Step off his first Gold album in 1995, "Old Enough to Know
Better" Come out Sunday night and dance to this and other great songs.

Web Site of the week - Featuring a site linked from Two Step Tidewater.
http://www.dance-info.com/ is a site maintained by Dave Moldover. Check out
this site for the latest DC area dance information. It links many good sites
in and out of the DC area. Dave also features a weekly email with many of
the same links plus a local dance calendar.

Dance Technique, feedback and information:
We received some feedback this week from a local male dancer. He had a few
questions about how to handle some situations on a crowded dance floor. One
question concerned how to handle slow dancers in front of you. The slow
dancers that tend to use more side to side moves than progressing down LOD
during a traveling dance such as Foxtrot. He wanted a good way to tell the
couple to move on and stop blocking everyone. My answer is that there isn't
a good way to tell them. Anything you say will be taken wrong. In my opinion
the best way to handle this situation is to dance smarter. As a leader I
need to pay attention to not only what is happening around me and my partner
but also what is going on further ahead. If I see a bottle neck developing
ahead I will throw in some moves that will delay my travel (without blocking
those behind us). If near a corner I will fall away back to the corner and
do a measure of hesitation and shaping to allow time for the way ahead to
clear. I also tend to dance much smaller when on a crowded floor until
things clear up. These and other techniques may help but not eliminate the
"close encounters of the dance kind" all dancers hate.
Please comment if you wish.

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
