Hello Dancers..
Judy and I are looking forward to spending Father's day out dancing. My
favorite activity! We hope many of you feel the same way and join us Sunday
night.
We thank Cherie for teaching the Schottische last week and Tony for
requesting it. This week we will review both the Schottische and the
Traveling Cha-Cha. Both are Partner Pattern dances and are danced to
Country-Western music. As June is West Coast Swing month we are teaching
another swing pattern after a review of last week.
Starting in July - Two Step lessons. We are changing our format also. During
the entire month we will be teaching basic Two Step at the 6:30 lesson all
month. We want to see if this format helps those who want to practice or
warm up prior to the second lesson. It will also give the beginners a chance
to understand the basics. If you are already past the basics the more
advanced lesson starts a 7pm.

Chesapeake Parks & Recreation Center.
Walter & Judy are starting the next series of classes in July. The schedule
follows. The cost is $21.00 for 6 weeks plus $5.00 more if you live outside
Chesapeake. It's a good way to get the basics and learn some fundamentals
about the different dances. The numbers for Chesapeake Parks & Recreation
are 382-8464 or 382-6411. They need to have a minimum of six students before
the class can start. Although you can register the first night of class we
ask that you call and have your name added to their list.

We have a new web site at our links page. The page was designed and in
maintained by Jeff Miller who is a dancer as well. You can check it all out
at http://www.swingvirginia.com/
Although we are part time swing dancers
Jeff has linked us to his site as well. If you visit his site let Jeff know
about the great swing music we play on Sunday night.

Speaking of Swing...
The song of the week is a West Coast Swing song written many years ago but
sung on this CD by the great vocalist Lou Rawls. The album is Lou Rawls -
Anthology (Capitol - 2000) and the song St. James Infirmary, is one of
several good swing song on this two disc set. The song has a rather slow
intro that sets the mood for the 114 bpm smooth groove from Lou. Come in
this Sunday to dance to this and more great dance songs.

Couple dancing frustrations:
The most frustrations in dancing and learning seems to be centered around
learning as a couple. I have run into very few couples that can learn and
practice together without developing static between them. You know how when
you walk across the rug and get zapped when you touch something? No matter
how careful you are, SNAP!! That seems to be what happens between dance
partners. No matter how good your intentions are that static builds up. It
can't be avoided so lets look to redirect the static. When it starts to
build call a time out and change the subject. Skip over the problem and come
back to it later. Don't get another opinion unless it's your coach or
instructor. Why make someone else suffer. Agree to look at the problem from
a different perspective. If footwork is the problem work for awhile on frame
or styling. And men, according to my friend Perry Neal 75% of the
responsibility for completion of a move is the MAN'S. And I agree.
Any other ideas???
