Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hi Dancers...

Last Sunday we had a very good dance with even more variety now that Cherie
is helping with some Pattern Partner Dances such as Schottische. We had a
small group for the beginning Night Club lesson but most of those got the
hang of the dance pretty quick. This coming Sunday we will be teaching basic
East Coast Swing and the last of the West Coast Swing for the month of June.
In July we start Country Two-Step month.

Song of the week:
This week we are spotlighting a fast swing that was a big hit in 1984 by
Wham (aka George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley) titled "Wake me up before you
Go-Go" The CD version of their hit album "Make it Big" is still available
but there were only a couple of good songs on the album. You can dance to
this and many other great popular songs each Sunday night at "A Time to
Dance" when we hold our popular social dance.

Web Site of the Week:

The Ballroom Bliss site is put together by Ballroom teacher and competitor
Christopher Pilarchik and is dedicated to his late wife Dee (Lemanowicz)
Pilarchik. the site has a little of everything including technique tips,
games, a skill test and some dance art. It's truly an interesting web site.

Moms and Dads...

We all had one of each and some of us are either a Mom or Dad ourselves.
Recently my good friend Roberto lost his Mom to cancer. From listening to
Roberto he had a great relationship with his Mom and losing her was very
hard. Some of us who lost a Mom or Dad find it's never easy on the soul.
Although I lost my Dad while young, my Mom is still doing good at 80. I plan
to make every moment that I can call and talk to her count.

For us who grew up in the 50's and 60's our music was Rock & Roll and we
seldom had or needed a dance partner. When I started learning Ballroom it
was a total unique experience learning all these Ballroom dances. Once when
my Mom came to visit we went out to a studio dance and that's when I found
out my Mom was a pretty good dancer. The great part about her dancing was
that she never took lessons to learn all her "Ballroom" dancing. This was
the dancing she grew up with, Foxtrot, Jitterbug, etc. that's what they
danced in the USO clubs and when she was in the Navy. I never saw my Mom &
Dad dance but from what I hear they were great. I didn't get to see them but
it sure was nice talking to Mom about her experiences.

If you still have your Mom or Dad ask them about their younger days. You may
find out something new too. If you are Mom or Dad tell your kids what
dancing means to you and give them a memory of you to hold forever. One day
they may brag about you just like we do now.
