Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers,

Our social dance last Sunday seemed to have a little of something for every
dancer. Everyone picked up on the Waltz lessons quickly and then danced
until after 10pm to everything from The Barn Dance to Tango. After  hours
we had a few brave dancers who kept going right up to the time we locked
up.

This week we will continue with the Waltz lessons in the same format.
********************************
The song of the week,"Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps", is a Rumba from the movie
"Strictly Ballroom" Originally recorded by Doris Day for her "Latin for
Lovers" album in 1965, it is one of several nice dance songs on the album.
It can also be found on the soundtrack fro the movie "Strictly Ballroom" If
anyone can find out who wrote this song I would like to know. Anyway, I
have the soundtrack from "Strictly Ballroom" and this song is my favorite
from that album.
*********************************
The Web Site of the week is the "Covers Project" found at
http://www.coversproject.com/ Although the research listed seems very
tedious I have used some of the information to locate a different version
of songs that I like. It's not totally complete but type in an artist or
song title and search.
*********************************
Should you talk and dance at the same time? This question was recently
asked of me by a dancer friend. He wanted to know if it was ok to carry on
a conversation, not related to dancing, while dancing. My answer is from a
social dancer's point of view and in order to answer the question you need
to ask a few more. Is the conversation going to distract you or your
partner enough that one of you gets off time with the music? Will a
conversation distract you enough to make you run into another couple? Can
you carry on a conversation and still maintain your dance frame? If the
above items are not a problem I don't see any reason why a conversation
wouldn't be proper. Naturally we see it more in some dances than others and
less in Ballroom than C/W, Swing and Latin. You be the judge. If your
conversation leads to the problems listed above you had best wait until the
dance is over.

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
