Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers,

Thanks to all of you for supporting our Sunday night dance. We really have
a great time each week meeting old friends and making new ones. The Hustle
series is coming along better than expected. It's a difficult dance for us
to teach. We have had a few requests to bring back Country Two Step so that
is what the January dance will be.

## Song of the week:
The song is another Hustle titled "Flashback" The song was performed by a
British group called Imagination and was released on their 1981 album "Body
Talk" The song is a good tempo Hustle. come on out on Sunday to dance to
this and other great dance songs.

## Web Site of the Week;
Again we offer a non-dance related site but one that is timely and
interesting. The link below will open a web site that offers several clear
photos of the Wright Brother's accomplishments.

## Dance Tip:
How do you count it?
This question has provoked more controversy in dancing than many other
subjects. The dances that attract the most controversy are Salsa and
Hustle.

In Salsa there are the "Salsa is Mambo" dancers who insist that the break
step in on the "two" beat. Then there is another group who insist on the
"one" beat for the break step. Some of the Salsa dancers got fed up with
all of it and dance Salsa using quicks and slows. Since most dancers start
dancing on a "one" beat I guess using QQS means you start on the "one" Judy
and I like to teach QQS in Salsa because it does not intimidate new
dancers. "Feel the Music and Dance to it"

In 3-count Hustle one group insists on &1,2,3 while another group dances
1,2,&3. We learned starting on the & but have taken many workshops that
taught to start on the 1. Starting on the one seems more social dance
friendly but starting on the & put the moves better in time with the music.
Judy and I also teach Hustle using slows and quicks as in SSQQ. Which seems
to work better for social dancing? We haven't decided yet. Our best idea
for dancing Hustle is to "feel the music and dance to it".

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
