Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers,

We are back from vacation and ready to keep dancing all Winter. Last
Sunday's dance was great! No matter how much we enjoyed our vacation it was
great to come back home. Dorothy had it right!!

The lesson schedule for December contained a mistake. We have no dance on
December 28th. We will be at the USABDA New Year's Eve event. It will be a
great way to wrap up 2003 and put a good start on 2004.

This week we will be teaching the Country Two-Step. The beginner lesson at
6:30 and Intermediate at 7:00.

+++ The song of the week:
This week we are featuring an old favorite by Alan Jackson, Off his "Here
in the Real World" album the number one track is "Ace of Hearts" when you
play it it's like listening to an old friend sing. I didn't have a clue
about Two Step back in 1989 when it was released but it was a favorite then
as it is now. But, just listening then and dancing now. Come on out this
Sunday and ask to hear Alan.

+++ The Web Site of the Week:
Victor's web page has not been updated in a few months but you can still
find many interesting articles and thoughts on dancing.
http://www.eijkhout.net

+++ Habits, good and bad:
I don't know which is harder, to break a bad habit or to reinforce a good
one. Both take practice. I think the key is to recognize either. Dancing is
too much of a repetitive skill to change instantly and like any skill,
dancing can be practiced correctly or poorly. Whenever a skill is practiced
poorly the bad habits are reinforced to the point were they become "normal"

In order to recognize bad habits, practice slowly in front of a mirror or
video camera. Very quickly both will become objects you will wish to avoid
but can't. Get the slowest song that you can find and practice a couple of
moves. If you find something that doesn't look right it probably isn't. If
you can't figure out how to change a habit get help from a dance teacher or
another dancer. Once you get the problem "fixed" practice until the good
habit feel "normal"

You may only fix one bad habit at a time but sooner than later it will make
a difference.

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
