Hello Dancers...
Judy and I will be glad to get back to dancing this Sunday night. As
promised, the 6:30 lesson will be basic West Coast Swing. The 7:00
intermediate lesson is on Country Two Step. Also, we picked up some more
music over the last couple of weeks and hope to have some new mixes ready
for this Sunday.

I receive a newsletter each month from another dancer and soon we will begin
posting it on our web site. I thinks the letter is quite good and full of
good information. Get on the list directly by emailing

The song this week is "Full of Fire" by Al Green. I have played it many
times when a good Hustle song is needed and get many dancers on the floor.
At a little over 3-1/2 minute long it may be too much for some but the tempo
is moderate enough to allow most dancers to dance the entire song. Follow
this link to download a short clip or come out Sunday night to dance to the
full song.

Dancing the right way!
(My point of view)
Sometimes when dancing my partner doesn't feel she completed a move
correctly and apologizes. Now I could see an apology for stepping on me or
an elbow to the chin but for not completing a move? Maybe there is too much
emphasis made on doing each move exactly as shown. I may be wrong about this
but if you are not in competition it may not really matter as much as we may
think. Also it may not even be their fault. When this happens I usually try
it again later with a little different lead and get a different result.
Since lead and follow is a conversation between dance partners our
conversation might be a little garbled and we both may be at "fault"
Lately I have examined this "social dance" thing and determined that there
needs to be a better standard on "Dancing the Right Way" If we define social
dancing as dancing when attending a social event then the point is to
facilitate the socializing. When we socialize with others we try to keep the
conversation pleasant, light and continuous. I feel that the dancing should
be that way also. If we are attending a party we need to have a good time as
well. I have attended many "Social" dances where some of the dancers look
like they are not having a bit of fun. No smiles, no conversation, no floor
courtesy and look like they are at work rather than out having fun. They may
think they are dancing the right way but are they?
Another bad habit is when a better dancer is trying to help his or her
partner. Sometimes the help starts to get carried away. If it doesn't work
out the way you want don't correct until you try the move differently and
really figure out if it's the lead or the follow or maybe both. Just don't
make a big deal out of it. Remember the social part.
As usual, I welcome any comments and ideas on this social dance theme.
