Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers..

Judy and I were happy to see some new faces at our dance but missed seeing
some of the regular dancers. We had two great lessons last Sunday hopefully
introducing some to West Coast Swing and giving the intermediate dancers a
good Country Two-Step pattern.

Next month the early lesson is on beginner Salsa. And for the month of May
we will be highlighting West Coast Swing at the second lesson. We will teach
some pretty cool moves for the West Coast Swing dancers who are ready for
some more advanced material.

On May 11th, Mother's Day, we will not have a dance. Please have a pleasant
holiday and use the time to remember your Mother

This week song is "Corrina, Corrina" sung by Joseph Vernon Turner, also
known as Big Joe Turner, who was called "The boss of the Blues". Corrina,
Corrina" was released by Turner in 1956 and became his biggest pop hit. The
song is a pretty good swing with just a little blues sound. Big Joe passed
away in 1985. To give proper credit the song was a 1928 song by Bo Chatmon
and in addition to Big Joe has been covered by many artists.Come out to our
Sunday night dance and hear this and many other great swing songs

New and learning:

During a recent lesson I told the men that if they didn't treat the ladies
right the ladies wouldn't want to dance with them. Although a little
exaggerated, not making the ladies feel comfortable while dancing will
certainly make you very un-popular as a dancer. That goes for the ladies as
well. A little bit of flattery goes a long way with us guys. Make us feel
like you enjoy dancing with us and we will ask you again. It was brought to
my attention that if you are just learning to dance it is just too difficult
to try and learn without making mistakes. It's hard for the ladies and even
harder for the men. If you are a more experienced dancer try to be patient
with someone new and learning. They are sure to make mistakes and repeat
them many times in order to learn. Just because a new dancer makes mistakes
is no reason to avoid them. Try to dance with and help a new dancer no
matter what your level of experience.
