Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers,

We had a small but enthusiastic group of dancers show up last Sunday night.
We also had an almost equal number of men and women. Happy Fathers Day to
all the Dads that we didn't see last weekend !!

Thanks to Cherie for reviewing the Schottische and Traveling Cha-Cha last
week. For the second lesson Walter reviewed the mechanics of the West Coast
Swing eight count whip. This coming Sunday we will be teaching basic Social
Night Club and a cool West Coast Swing pattern and a review of last weeks
lesson.

Starting in July - Two Step lessons. We are changing our format also. During
July we will be teaching basic Two Step at the 6:30 lesson each week, all
month. We want to see if this format helps those who want to practice or
warm up prior to the second lesson. It will also give the beginners a chance
to understand the basics. If you are already past the basics the more
advanced lesson starts a 7pm. It's two-step month !

This Friday there is a Tidewater Swing Dance Club dance to be held at "A
Time to Dance"  Included is a free “Whip It Good” Lesson at 8:00pm.This
lesson will progress from the basic WCS whip to intermediate  variations, so
it's good for all levels!  From 9:00pm – 11:30pm dance to a variety of Swing
music PLUS other fun stuff: Latin, Hustle, Two Step and more! Refreshments
and Snacks Provided $4 for TSDC members, $7 for non members. Special $5.00
price to non swing club members who attend Two Step Tidewater dances.

Doug High Dance Studio has cancelled the practice party on Friday the 20th.
They are preparing for their June 29th showcase http://www.dhdancestudio.com

It's Summertime, finally

Yes, the warm weather is finally here along with more rain. This week I will
list a few good tips to cope with the change of seasons in your dancing.

1. Some dances get very warm and humid. Bring a towel and dress for comfort.
2. If you go to an outdoor dance wear comfortable shoes with hard soles but
not your dance shoes. If you are in sneakers you better learn to step off
the turns 'cause you sure can't spin.
3. When it's raining dry off your shoes and take off your wet coat when
entering a dance. Water and dance floors don't mix.
4. Drink plenty of fluids before and during dancing to keep your stamina up.
5. Don't stuff yourself before going out for a night of dancing.
6. Keep an extra shirt and a clean up kit handy if you plan to go out after
a night of dancing.
7. Double check dance schedules. Some dances change hours during the Summer
months, Outdoor dances get cancelled.
8. Try to interest the kids in dancing when they are out of school for the
summer.
9. Summers are meant to be enjoyed. Let a good evening dance put the final
polish on your day.
10. Go out shopping for new dance clothes during the summer sales.
