Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

Hello Dancers,
This last week we missed getting out a newsletter due to a computer
changeover. We also have a new e-mail address, classic2step@verizon.net .
The old address will be active for a few months to insure a smooth
transition. Next Sunday we will continue with the Country Two Step series.
During September we will be teaching Cha-Cha for the social dancer. The
first lesson will concentrate on basics and during the second we will teach
a new move each week.

Song of the week:

"I Hope You Want me Too" is a Country Western Cha-Cha released by the
Mavericks on their Trampoline album in early 1998 on the MCA label. This
song is fast for A Country Western Cha-Cha but much slower than most Latin
Cha-Cha songs. I like to play the song at our dances as it is a good one
for beginner dancers but not too slow for the more experienced. You can
dance Cha-Cha to this and many other great songs during our Sunday dance.

Dangerous Drivers:
Do you every wonder what would happen on a busy highway if you stopped, put
you vehicle in reverse and started backing up? Pretty dumb? Well, at least
the vehicle has signal lights. We have noticed more and more dancers
learning moves and patterns that do just that. There seems to be a larger
number of dancers also learning complex patterns made up of several moves
linked together and using them on a social floor. Common sense dictates
that both practices should be eliminated from the social floor. I would
suggest the following to social dancers. 1. When your instructor teaches a
new move ask how it should be danced socially. Also ask where is the best
place on a dance floor to dance the move. 2. When you learn a complex new
pattern break it down into the individual moves. This will allow you to
stop and change directions when a couple, (or wall or chair) is in the way.
Many times we have seen a couple coming our way, panic on the man's face,
and know they are totally incapable of altering the path of the complex
pattern. A little planning while learning will prevent you from becoming
one of those "Dangerous Drivers".
