Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers...
Our thanks to the large group of dancers who attended our dance last Sunday
night. Judy and I really enjoyed seeing everyone having such a great time.
Social dancing is a wonderful activity if you let it be. Next Sunday we are
again teaching Country Two-Step with another interesting move taught after
the basic lesson. We have been asked to teach some Salsa Rueda. We don't
know the dance but some of our Sunday night dancers do. Is there enough
interest to have this next month as the second lesson? Due to the nature of
our dance we couldn't have an all night Rueda party but a few extra Salsa
songs would be pretty nice all the way around. Feedback is requested
please...

We have had many questions about dance tempo. We found a site that offered
short clips of each type of music but lost it. The next best thing is this
site that lists the dances along with some information.

The song of the week is a East Coast Swing titled "That'll Be The Day"
Originally performed by Buddy Holly & the Crickets the song made #1 on the
Top 40 charts in 1957. The cover in 1976 by Linda Ronstadt made it to # 11
on the charts. Both versions make a good swing and have been popular swing
songs for many years.

Dance Tip of the Week;
Judy and I were blessed with another large group of students through the
Chesapeake Parks and Recreation. It is great having all these students to
work with. Our tip of the week is connected to new dancers. If you need to
review your technique try teaching a new dancer. You will find yourself
examining something that you take for granted every time you get on the
dance floor. In order to teach we had to go back to basics ourselves and
review all that had been automatic all these years. It is quite an
experience. We would recommend every dancer to try teaching a non-dancer
some basics at least once.

We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
