Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers... From our Weekly Newsletter

***********************************

Hello Dancers,

Our first Foxtrot lesson at our Sunday dance and we had a great turnout! We
were very happy with everyone's quick progress into this great ballroom
dance. This week we will continue with Foxtrot and during the second lesson
add to the move taught last week.

Our Chesapeake class series started this week and hopefully some of the new
dancers will show up on  Sunday.

Dance Tip..

We will continue the technical stuff this week with an explanation of CBM
and CBMP.

CBM - Contra Body Movement - This happens when the upper body rotates in
the opposite direction from the lower body while moving. To try this out
stand with your weight on the Right foot. Step out on your Left foot and at
the same time twist your upper body to the left (Right shoulder forward).
Next step back with your Left foot and twist your upper body to the Right.
(Right shoulder back) If it feels like a wind up for a spin it should. If
you were to place and center your weight on the moving foot you could spin
easily.

CBMP - Contra Body Movement Position - This happens when one foot is placed
in front of the other while dancing. To try this movement (man) stand with
the weight on your Left foot. Travel forward while placing the Right foot
directly in front of the Left. Imagine having a partner with you and you
will see that this is the movement that is used when moving to outside
partner while continuing to face your partner. Ladies, try the same
movement but using the opposite feet and traveling backward.

Both of these are important to social dancing and are used in all dances.
In order to make sure you are using the proper technique ask your
instructor to go over both of these movements and how they are used in
dancing.

Song of the Week..

We have an entire album for you this week. The album Deuces Wild by B.B.
King and friends is a great collection of swing music. Only a few are not
swing songs and all are great for listening if you like the Blues. His
duets are widely varied for Willie Nelson to Heavy D. Also included are
duets with Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker and The Rolling Stones. I
picked up this album about a year ago and have yet to play it on a Sunday
night. Maybe this Sunday that will change. Come on out on Sunday and you
might just get to dance West Coast to B.B. and Bonnie.

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton Roads, Yorktown, Gloucester, and Williamsburg) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater area dancers.  We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites.  To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz.  Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement.  Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page.  We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page.  Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event.  In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to http://www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails.  (Not just C&W. We'll  include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.)  We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason.  We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
