Hello Dancers,
Judy and I once again thank all the wonderful friends who came out to our last Sunday night dance. We hope the students for our Chesapeake Parks and Recreation classes enjoyed the dance and are able to visit again soon. A social dance is an exciting way to reinforce your lessons. For those who wish to advance further, "A Time to Dance" studio offers several group classes during the week.
There WILL be a dance on Memorial Day weekend.
The group lesson in May will continue to be Country Two Step. The group lesson in June will be Cha-Cha. The group lesson in July will be Hustle.
Friday, June 11th Judy and Walter will be hosting a Country Western Dance. The dance will be held at "A Time to Dance" studio and will run from 8:30pm until 11pm. There will be no regular lesson. The music will be all Country Western. The dance will be for Couples and Partner Dances. We will be dancing Country, Night Club and Triple Two Step. Waltz, Cha-Cha, East Coast & West Coast Swing and Polka. Some of the Partner dances will be Cowboy Cha-Cha (Traveling), Schottische, Sidekick, Desperado Wrap, McGraw Stroll, Long Branch Hustle, Tennessee Walk, Wagon Wheel, (& more). Some of these we will learn as we go. We also will try the West Coast Swing Mixer. We will have light refreshments. The cost will be $5.00 per person. For now the plan is to hold this dance on the second Friday of each month. After a couple of months we will make a decision on whither or not to continue, expand the schedule or drop the idea. If you enjoy C/W music and dancing try this out. Clean, smoke free dance. Safe environment and parking. Low cost. Three hours of social dancing. Light refreshments included.

Recycled tip of the Week:
Social dancing improves social skills.
Someone told me they wanted to attend a social dance but didn't know how to dance. They were afraid of looking bad in front of all the good dancers.
They had watched ballroom dancing on Public Television and were mesmerized, but hesitant about being surrounded by dancers with similar skills.
I tried to reassure them, letting them know how we felt about social dancing but, I'm not sure I made them change their mind about attending a social dance. Until people start coming to social dances they are very uneasy about being in that kind of situation.
I remember when I made that first step toward learning to dance. It wasn't very comfortable for me no matter how nice the other dancers were.
That got me thinking about how dancing changes our lives. When asked to list the benefits of dancing we list exercise, improved motor skills, improved coordination and learning more about music and timing. One important benefit we overlook is how we gain confidence in interacting with others.
Think about how you felt toward attending a large social event prior to becoming a dancer and how you feel about it now. Although I have always been comfortable in most settings, becoming a dancer gave me much more confidence in dealing with people during social events. Now when I talk to others about social dancing this will be the first thing mentioned. Social dancing improves social skills.
One other thing to remember is that social dancers are VERY sympathetic and RARELY EVER criticize a new "baby" dancer - because we all remember our own growing pains, as we began our first steps into the dance scene. Nobody ever starts out dancing like the ones you see on TV, or in the dance exhibitions. Like babies, we all start with the first few, hesitant steps, a few falls, and some skinned knees.
