Odds and Ends for this week's dance action in Tidewater

Hello Dancers,

Thanks to everyone for a real nice turn out and dance last Sunday. The Two
Step move was a little tough and will be continued this week. For February
we will depart from the normal routine and teach two different dances each
Sunday. During the first 1/2 hour Bob Gomez will teach Salsa Rueda. Some of
you already know and dance this during our social dance. During the second
1/2 hour Walter will teach a Night Club move. Something for everyone.

The song of the week is a Slow Waltz.
The main title song from the movie Rudy is a nice tempo Waltz by Paul
Goldsmith. This type of large orchestra Waltz music is my favorite. Paul
goldsmith also did the score of many other motion pictures. A little
searching may find you some other gems. The Rudy soundtrack can be heard at

Dance tip of the week:
When we learn to dance we think of our feet as the most important
ingredient but the body plays a bigger role. Although we must move our feet
in order to move around the floor we should be thinking of moving our
bodies instead and letting our feet keep up. An example of not using your
feet to dance is the slow beat in basic Salsa or 4-1 beat in Mambo. Our
feet are not moving but our body is. We are changing weight during these
two counts of music. If we stood still and changed weight to music would we
still be dancing? Remember, with our frame we can move our partner.
Although our body is what we should think about when moving around the
dance floor our feet are connected to the body and need to be trained also.
Just don't think that the steps you learn will make you a better dancer.
Everything must be in balance.
