Hello Dancers,
We had a great time Sunday. The Super Bowl kept a few away but we still had
a super turnout. Many thanks to Bob & Marge Gomez for teaching the first
lesson in Salsa Rueda. They will be continuing with more Salsa Rueda this
coming Sunday. The second lesson will be on Night Club Two Step and taught
by Walter & Judy. We have a few ideas for the March lessons but nothing
firm yet.

Song of the Week:
Last Saturday Rick Hockman played a wonderful Waltz sung by Jo Stafford &
Gordon MacRae titled "Whispering Hope" A little research found that they
recorded this song for a 78 rpm disc in 1949. I found a site where the
entire song can be played and saved as an MP3 file. It's a very good and
inspirational Waltz. Click on this link to check it out.
http://www.patfullerton.com/gm/songs/gordonsongs.html While on the site
check out Gordon MacRae's rendition of America The Beautiful performed live
on the July 3rd 1969 Ed Sullivan Show.

Next weekend is the weekend of Josie and Cyndee Neel's Atlantic Seashore
Dance Faire held in Williamsburg. It is a weekend long event starting off
tonight and continuing through Sunday afternoon. We are attending and will
leave Sunday in time to host our own dance Sunday night. If you like to
dance and like to watch dancing this is the event to attend in the area.

Dance Tip of the Week:
This week during our Chesapeake series we felt it was time to bring up an
important but seldom thought of dance concept.
If you are starting to dance on the one beat what are you doing before the
one beat? A little thought will put this concept before any musical beat
but let's look at how we start to dance. Even though we need "steps"
something must get us there. If we are to take the first step on the, Left
for men Right for ladies, foot we are first supported and then propelled by
the opposite foot and leg. In other words our body is moving well before
the foot strikes the floor on the first beat of music. How our body moves
and how well we support out weight will determine how well we move with the
music and how well we dance with our partner. For each dance style we move
differently. Instead of lengthy explanations try a couple of different
types of dances on your own and pay attention to what happens before the
first beat and in-between every beat.
We were taught this concept several years ago and find that it is something
to which we dancers pay too little attention.
