Hello Dancers,
Last Sunday was great. No snow, no rain, plenty of dancers. Thanks again to
Bob & Marge Gomez for teaching Salsa Rueda. They have had lots of patience
with everyone these last few Sundays. This Sunday will be the last lesson
for now in Salsa Rueda and Night Club Two-Step. March 7th we start teaching
Social Foxtrot.

Four steps to becoming a successful Social Dancer.
Now that we have learned how to dance we need to learn how to be a more
successful social dancer.
To become a success at anything it is important to have a positive
attitude. Everyone likes the positive person and avoids the negative
person. That is number one.
Dancing is a very social activity where you interact with others very
closely. How many other situations, in public, do you walk up to a
stranger, introduce yourself and then hold them close for the next several
minutes? I don't think you could get away with that anywhere in public
except the dance floor. That is where the personal hygiene come in. You
can't be a popular social dancer until that is taken care of. Don't expect
others to tell you that your hygiene is off color. You need to check it out
for yourself. That is number two.
So, now you are all cleaned up and have a great attitude then what? The
next question is how much of a dance do I need to know? Take a look around
at the popular dancers. The popular woman dancer has learned how to follow
a lead without their partner feeling like he is hauling her around the
floor. In other words successful female dancers should learn to feel the
lead and then complete the move on their own. In order to do this they
should learn the fundamentals of each dance. The popular male dancer needs
to perfect his lead to the point where he can receive constant feedback
from his partner. If he can't evaluate each lead and adjust he is not
leading, only pushing and pulling. Not only do men need to learn the dance
steps but also how to lead properly. That is number three.
Once the above is mastered you need to become comfortable with your dancing
to the point that you can dance to the music without thinking about the
steps. That takes practice and is number four.
So who are the successful dancers? Those who are 1-positive, 2-clean,
3-easy to dance with, and 4-able to concentrate on their partner instead of
their feet.

The Song of the Week is off a new Disco CD set that I picked up recently.
"Risky Changes" was a classic Disco hit from the 1977 Greg Diamond group
Bionic Boogie. With a little soul sound incorporated this song is pure
70's. and steady beat will keep your Hustle on track. It's a little long
for us oldsters at almost five minutes but like most Disco this one repeats
itself many times and can be faded out before you do.
