Hello Dancers:

Only days left until The annual New York City Big Apple Country and Western Competitions - March 10th 2005

Only days left until St. Patrick's Day - March 17th 2005 Click here to browse, and find out more about St. Patrick's Day and Irish Dancing.

Judy and I once again thank the very large group of our dancing friends who came out for our last Cha-Cha lesson and party last Sunday.

This Sunday and throughout March, we will be teaching East Coast Swing from 6:30 until 7:30. Our social dance follows.

We had a nice turnout of couples for all three of our Group classes taught this last week. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the experience. We welcome anyone who wishes to attend our group classes.  If you haven't attended because you are looking for a practice partner please contact us. We may be able to help.  Ladies, ladies, ladies, we have an excess of willing men, needing dancing partners.

Sunday night dance as usual with East Coast Swing (ECS) lesson. No dance on Easter Sunday.

Judy and I will also be hosting some of the Studio parties on Saturday nights.  Check the schedule below.

All of the patterns we will be teaching will be learned best if the student has a partner with which to dance and practice. If you want to attend and need a partner please contact us and we will try to help out. If you want to attend as a single we will ask but not require the other students to  rotate partners. During all of our classes we will be teaching one move or pattern per half hour session. Some patterns are stand alone and others build on a previous pattern. We make every attempt to teach patterns that are "leadable" and social in nature.

Dance tip of the week:

Differences in How Dancers Approach Dancing. Enjoy Dancing!

Judy and I have hosted our Sunday night dance for three years now. During that time we have met and had a chance to observe many wonderful people.

One observation we have made is the difference in how dancers approach dancing. One would think that dancing would mean the same for almost anyone but much like any activity that requires skill the approach can be quite different. This difference becomes very apparent when a dance couple are looking at dancing differently. Sometimes it seems like two people on a tandem bicycle. One wants to get there faster and better than ever before and the other is out for a nice peaceful ride. It may cause some problems.

We not only noticed this between couples but also from one couple to another during a dance. There are some couples who are out for a nice spin around the floor. Others who are trying to get around quicker than anyone else. And, still others who a doing their best to stay clear of everyone else.

If you enjoy dancing but are frequently frustrated, maybe it's time to examine your dancing goals. We wonder if dancing can be as frustrating to some as golf? If you are tired of feeling like you need to improve, take a few group dance classes. If you must be "the best," consider private dance lesssons.  Every dancer gets pumped up by learning something new. If you are taking every lesson available and feel like you can't improve, you might try dancing for fun. If you are happy where you are.. you are among the lucky ones.

Enjoy dancing!  (Adopt an attitude that "if it ain't fun, don't do it.")  It is an activity that is healthy, active, social, entertaining and skill building all in one. Don't let unmanageable goals (or egos) interfere.

Thought for a day..

"Principle -- particularly moral principle -- can never be a weathervane, spinning around this way and that with the shifting winds of expediency.
Moral principle is a compass forever fixed and forever true and that is as important in business as it is in the classroom."

~ Edward R. Lyman ~
                                                            PONDER THIS!

"Life is not a journey to the grave

with the intention of arriving safely

in a pretty and well-preserved body,

but rather to skid in broadside,

thoroughly used up,

totally worn out,

and loudly proclaiming:

WOW!! What a Ride!"

Song of the Week

Bobby Darin 1936 - 1973
http://www.bobbydarin.net/main.html

Everyone knows him by his biggest hits, Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea.
We think some of his other music is worth a second look. One of our many favorites is "Always". A Foxtrot for those who dance, this song is a real swinging hit like most of Bobby Darin's music. If you want just one Bobby Darin Album to buy make it the Capital Label "A Spotlight on" (Great Gentlemen of song) I am constantly amazed that with all the great music this man recorded the only thing you hear is "Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea" both of which are great songs but not what some of the other are.
Check out this Album on the Amazon site and see for yourself.
