Another great week of dancing gone by! The transition to "DanceSport" went very well with the usual large crowd coming out to socialize and dance.

Make sure you plan on coming out to the largest dance floor and best social dance in Tidewater this Sunday night. We will be teaching a West Coast Swing lesson from 6:30 until 7pm. We hope to bring some new information back from the Easterns this weekend.

Judy and I were very enthused after the Wednesday group classes this week.
The beginner Night Club was so easy to teach when the students were as receptive as those we had in our first class. The Intermediate Cha-Cha was also a great class. The patterns we are teaching are unknown in the Ballroom community. It's really cool to be able to watch dancers enjoy learning something so different and exciting. Find a partner and come out to join us.
Starting in May all of our classes and social dances will be held at "DanceSport VA" unless notified otherwise. Email or call if you need directions.

We will no longer be holding dances at our former location, A Time to Dance, Dance Studio.  We will be moving all activities to the Dancesport VA dance studio, which is much larger, and has an air conditioner which handles a larger crowd, more comfortably.

Dance tip of the week:

Dancing with others....

When dancing with a partner many dancers fail to realize there are other dancers on the floor that they must interact with.

Going back to the "Dancing is a Conversation" analogy, we must think of a conversation between two people in the middle of a party. No one around you and you can talk louder. When others are around only a complete knucklehead will continue talking as if alone.

Likewise only a knucklehead will dance as if alone on the floor, when a couple is on a dance floor along with other dancers.  They will need to move like driving in traffic. Obey the "rules of the road", anticipate other's movements and protect their partner. This is not only the leader's job but the follower's as well. A gentle squeeze or tap on the arm will alert the leader of an impending crash.

A skillful leader will quickly earn the admiration of a lady quicker than one who knows all the moves but is prone to "crash & burn tactics." 

Try to be the former rather than the latter!

Dancing this week around Southeastern Virginia

There are many dancing activities available all during the week and far too many to list each week. Please check the links here and the links listed on our web site Two Step Tidewater Dance - links and other places to dance for many more places to dance. If your favorite local place is not listed it's because no one sent it to us. Please fix that problem by sending us the link and some basic information.

~~Every Sunday  Two Step Tidewater Dance,  - Dancesport VA dance studio  Please come out to Walter & Judy's social dance party. Casual dress. Mixed dance music, 1/2 hour dance lesson at 6:30 PM. Refreshments - $5.00/each 6:30 until 10:00 http://www.twosteptidewater.com .  Sunday  - "Dancesport VA dance studio" 6:30 pm to 10 pm - Walter & Judy's social dance - dance lesson included. Mix of Ballroom, Swing, Latin and Country Western. Refreshments served $5.00/ per person Call 483-9410 eMail for information.  This Sunday we are continuing with a Merengue lesson prior to our Sunday Social Dance beginning with a beginner class at 6:30. ~~NOTE:  Effective Sunday, May 1st, All Two Step Tidewater activities will be held at Dancesport VA dance studio.  (Remember this, if we miss some place and it still says "A Time to Dance."  Sunday May 1st - Sunday night social dance - Same time, format and cost as normal - We will be reviewing the Sweetheart Schottische. This is a partner pattern dance that travels and repeats. It is danced to medium tempo swing music. $5.00 all inclusive.

~~Every Monday - Virginia Beach Shag Dance Club (VBSC) Shag Classes 6:30-10:00, Steppin' Out Larry & Kathy Williams (285-3333)

~~Last Monday of each month - Roberto will be playing for a dance party at the 19th Hole dance studio in Hampton, VA.  7:00 - 10:00 PM. $8/$15 couple.  (From Interstate 64, take Lasalle exit going North.  Go past Armistead Ave.  Turn right at Tide Mill Lane.  19th Hole club is on the left.)

~~Every Tuesday (except first Tuesday) - Roberto will be playing for dancing at the Tropicana Restaurant and Lounge, inside the Day's Inn Motel on Northampton Blvd in Virginia Beach VA. 8:00 - 11:00 PM.

~~Wednesday May 4th through 25th - Four (4) week group series classes: $10.00 per person per class or $35.00 for the series. No discount cards please.  7-8pm - Beginner Night Club.  8-9pm - Intermediate Cha-Cha (one level above basic)  As usual, we suggest that each student have a partner. If you cannot hook up with a practice partner please contact us and we will try to help. Our classes are heavy on lead, follow and connection. This is best learned with a partner.

~~ Every Wednesday  - Roberto will sometimes play for dinner at Louigi's Italian Restaurant in Newport News VA, Terista's Latino Bar and Grill in Virginia Beach, or a dinner buffet (sometimes they cancel) at Langley AFB for a dinner-buffet and dance.  6:30-9:30 PM.  Hey, for the price of a dance entry alone, you get a fantastic Buffet, from soup to desert, including wine -- And you get to dance to Roberto.  The dance floor isn't too big, but it is sufficient for the dancers.  Check his web page before you make plans.

~~ Every Wednesday - Mitty's @ the Omni Hotel in Newport News every Wednesday night.  Cindy Parks, of Country Bootlegger Dance Studio in Yorktown, will be teaching Country and Western Line Dancing and Partner Dancing every Wednesday.  Doors open at 7:00 PM and there is NO COVER CHARGE if you arrive before 9:00 PM.  Free Dance lessons start at 9:00 PM.  Great music for both Line Dancers and Country and Western Partner dancing.

~~ Every Sunday - Roberto is USUALLY (sometimes they cancel) at Langley AFB in Hampton for a Champagne-Brunch-dance.  Some fantastic deal!  You pay for the dancing, and they give you the brunch and champagne for free....  You can dance off the meal, and there will still be plenty of time to get from the buffet to our regular Sunday Two Step Tidewater Dance.  So, if you can get on the base, treat your lady once-in-a-while.
