TSDC supports all of our Swing friends in the area, and these events are worth checking out.
Tidewater Swing Dance Club (TSDC) happenings!!
Hi Everybody-
Just a few important things you should know!
(Note: If you're interested in the
special TSDC "Private" lesson with Ken, please email Ken directly or you can
email the club. There are links to Ken's web site below and on the TSDC "Swingin'
Links" page of our web site.)
Ken Roesel is teaching some daytime workshops this Saturday in Charlottesville
VA. There will also be a social dance (with a hustle lesson) at night. Ken
is a top DC dance pro and has been very supportive of the Tidewater Swing Dance
Club.
Ken's also offered to teach a "private" lesson just for our group (if enough
people are interested). You don't have to be a TSDC member to participate.
Yes, it's the weekend before Swing Fling, but it sounds like a great time if you
can make it.
Here's the line-up of events:
11:00 - 12:15 Lead/Follow Technique (for all lead and follow partner dances) -
Tips on techniques for leaders and followers.
12:30 - 1:45 Spins & Turns plus Floor, Body, & Partner Connections
3:00 - 4:00 Available for TSDC "Private" lesson - this could be for as few as 2
people. Ken will cover whatever we want and you'll get more personal attention
than in a usual workshop. He's charging a flat fee ($75) that would be divided
between the participants.
8:00 - 9:00 Pre-dance workshop - Hustle
9:00 - 12:00 Open Dancing - West Coast Swing plus about 10-20% mix
The regular workshops are $12 for early registration and $15 at the door. (If
you go, ask Ken if he'll let our group pay just $12 a the door.) The night dance
(including lesson) is $10.
All lessons and the night dance will take place at the Municipal Arts Center in
Charlottesville VA. You can find more info and contact information at

If you're interested in going up for some or all of this, you can email the club
and we'll help get people together for car pools and room sharing.
Charlottesville VA is a fun place to visit and they have a very friendly dance
community. If you don't get up there this time, keep it in mind for future dance
get-aways!

*** The TSDC Christmas Dinner Dance will be on Saturday, December 10th
at DanceSport!
Mark your calendar!!! There will be plenty of great food, great music,
and great dancing, and all for a price that can’t be beat! This is our
4th TSDC Christmas Dance. Plan to come out and celebrate with us!
Remember to mark your calendar for the big TSDC Swingin' Christmas
Dinner-Dance at DanceSport, December 10th!! Great food, great music, and
great dancing - all at a super low price that can only be offerd by a
club!
*** Swing Fling is August 5-7 in DC!!
Only 4 weeks to Swing Fling - August 5-7! This is the closest mainstrean
West Coast Swing event to our area and it's a great weekend of lessons
by top instructors, competitions, and lots of social dancing! The TSDC
table is full, but you don't need a table to have fun at this event. The
next price increase happens on July 20th and you can register on line.

*** TSDC Field Trip to DC for Jordan and Tatiana on Oct 21-23.
This will be a great weekend of lessons and night dances with two of the
best dancers from California. We’re going to arrange the bus for group
transportation and help with room sharing too! This will be for TSDC
members only, but we’ll offer discounted membership if new dancers want
to join the club and the trip! If you’d like to get your name on the
list, email the club.
We’ll be taking deposits, and will limit the trip to 15 people! It’s a
great way to experience a big WCS dance and take lessons from two top
pros while
sharing the fun with fellow TSDC members! More details coming soon!
Although being assigned to a table is not necessary, it’s a great way to
have someplace reserved to put your “stuff” and to share the event with
people from our area. We hope you can join us!
Seven seats are already taken for the TSDC Field Trip to DC for Jordan
and Tatiana on October 21-23. Join the fun and travel with fellow TSDC
members! We'll ride together in a 15 passenger bus and the club will
arrange lodging and meals. For now, we're taking names of those
interested. Later, we'll take a deposit. There is a 15 person limit, so
plan on joining us and email the club to add your name to the list!! If
you are not a member, ask about membership specials for this trip! This
is a fun trip, don't miss out!

Swing Fling in only 2 weeks!
Swing Fling in DC starts 2 weeks from today! There will be about 20 TSDC
members attending! The TSDC table has overflowed, but you don't really
need a table to have a great time at this event. Please come by the club
table and visit and have some snacks! The club's #1 goal is to encourage
the growth of West Coast Swing in our area. Thanks to everyone who has
worked with the club to make our efforts so successful!! If you haven't
been to a swing event before and have questions, email the club! Ken
Roesel has offered seats at his tables for TSDC members. He may also be
able to get discounted event tickets.

Where
we came from, where we are, and where we’re going…
West Coast Swing is one of the fastest growing and most enjoyable dance forms in the country today. Unlike many stagnant dance forms that rely on a rigidly formatted syllabus and countless hours of expensive instruction, West Coast Swing is a very dynamic and musically interpretive dance that allows both men and women to creatively interact to a wide variety of music from Frank Sinatra to InSync. The dance is only limited by your imagination and basic skill. Once you learn the correct West Coast Swing fundamentals, and how to converse with your partner within the context of the dance, you’ll understand why so many dancers love to dance West Coast Swing till the wee hours of the morning. Each different song and each different partner provide a unique opportunity to dance to the music – together!
The Tidewater Swing Dance Club was formed in April 2002 to enhance the social dance scene in the Tidewater area by promoting West Coast Swing and developing a West Coast Swing dance community. Throughout the summer of 2002 the club met at various established local dances, taught introductory lessons, and recruited members. Several series classes were also held to develop fundamental West Coast Swing technique. In September 2002, the club began hosting monthly dances at rented facilities at both Southside Hampton Roads and Peninsula locations. The club’s primary goal is to provide a fun and friendly West Coast Swing dance community for all interested dancers by organizing dances, instruction, workshops, and special events.
