Thanks once again for the great turnout for our classes and Social Dances last weekend.  Thanks for your support, our dances and classes have been very well attended.

~~ Wednesday, August 31st - 8pm - 10pm
Mid Week Practice Dance for students - $8.00 We will be playing triplets of music for each dance that we have taught over the last several months.  During the dance we will be helping with questions about patterns & technique.  We ask that the more advanced students also attend not only to get information on the more advanced material but to show the new dancers what levels can be reached in each dance.  We will be providing some refreshments.

Continuing with Beginner, Level 2, Country Two-Step - We have put together the same package for this dance as we have for the Waltz. If you sign up for the entire 4 week series you can repeat the class each time it is offered within the next year for free.

The "New" Saddle Ridge has had their "Grand Opening" this past Thursday  night.  It's located in Hampton..... in Power Plant Center..it's in the same parking lot as "Joe's Crab House" and the "Pro Bass Shop". You can see it from Interstate 64 on your left coming from Virginia Beach.  The doors open @ 5:00pm. The cover change is $5.00. Mike & I will be there. They were opened this past weekend on Friday and Saturday night, but  haven't been opened since then. I'm excited.....to have a "New" dance club in town. Coming soon.....Cindy, of Country Bootlegger fame, will be teaching line dance & partner lesson there. She has been talking with the Manager and Event Director about the arrangements. I will keep you posted on when the classes will start and which nights.  Hope to see you there on Thursday night.

Dance tip of the week:

One good turn deserves another...

Every get off balance when doing a spot turn? Every wind up facing a different spot than you wanted?

When turning you must develop momentum from the floor up while that same contact with the floor slows you down as well. A good dancer can start a spin with almost no "wind up" but at one point the body will begin to out-turn the feet. There is no friction holding the body back while the feet are still attached to the floor.

When you complete the spin and drop your heels to stop, your body will want to continue. (Remember Isaac Newton?) If you allow you body to "outrun" your feet while turning there is nothing left when you want to stop. As a result your body will pull you off balance.

The next time you are practicing spot turns keep your body behind your direction of spin. This allows some slack to absorb the energy when you stop.

Imagine running. When you wish to stop you don't lean forward. If you did you would fall on your face. Try to relate this to turning and your turns may not improve but when you stop the balance will always be better.

~~Every Tuesday (except first Tuesday) - Roberto will be playing for dancing at the Tropicana Restaurant and Lounge, inside the Day's Inn Motel on Northampton Blvd in Virginia Beach VA. 8:00 - 11:00 PM.

~~Every Tuesday in August at  DanceSport VA   Group lessons $10 per person - or multi-lesson tickets can  be purchased at a discount

Again...
1. Sign up this upcoming Bronze Waltz class for the full 4 weeks $35.00.
2. For the next 12 months you can repeat this class every time it is offered.
3. If you take the full Bronze or beginner class we will make the same offer to you for the Intermediate classes.
4. Pay once and take the same series over and over again for a year!

~~Every Wednesday in September 7-8 PM DanceSport VA - Beginner American Cha-Cha - This is a foundation series class.

~~Every Wednesday in September 8-9 PM DanceSport VA - Beginner 2 Country Two-Step - We will continue with our group from August and can add those who are already ok with the basic patterns. ~~ Every Wednesday  - Roberto will sometimes play for dinner (and a nice, wood dance floor) at Louigi's Italian Restaurant 15400 Warwick Blvd. Newport News , VA 23601 Phone: (757) 887-0005 - Terista's Latino Bar and Grill in Virginia Beach -  or a dinner buffet (sometimes they cancel) at Langley AFB for a dinner-buffet and dance.  6:30-9:30 PM.  Hey, for the price of a dance entry alone, you get a fantastic Buffet, from soup to desert, including wine -- And you get to dance to Roberto.  The dance floor isn't too big, but it is sufficient for the dancers.  Check his web page before you make plans.

~~ Every Wednesday - Mitty's @ the Omni Hotel in Newport News every Wednesday night.  Cindy Parks, of Country Bootlegger Dance Studio in Yorktown, will be teaching Country and Western Line Dancing and Partner Dancing every Wednesday.  Doors open at 7:00 PM and there is NO COVER CHARGE if you arrive before 9:00 PM.  Free Dance lessons start at 9:00 PM.  Great music for both Line Dancers and Country and Western Partner dancing.

~~Friday, August 26th - Singles dance at Church of the Ascention. Check out the singles dance at Ascension Singles Dance .  Singles Friends in Christ sponsors Monthly Friday Fling Dance on the last Friday of every month at the Catholic Church of Ascension Community Center, 4853 Princess Anne Road, in Virginia Beach. The dance is smoke free and alcohol free and free snacks are available. The cost is $8.00 for non-members or $6.00 if you are a member. Sodas are available for $1.00. Free dance lessons are given from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, and the dance lasts from 7:30 to 11:30. The dance is a Catholic/Methodist joint effort. There are usually 250-350 people there.  Singles dance at Catholic Ascension Church in Virginia Beach the last Friday of every month. Cost is $8.00 to attend.  CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION, 757-495-1886 4853 PRINCESS ANNE ROAD, VIRGINIA BEACH VA 23462.  This is open to the public, and has no denominational affiliations.  The Ascension Church provides their social hall as a service to the singles in the tidewater area.  Come on out and have some clean, non-committed fun!

~~Friday, September 30th -  DanceSport VA is going to be hosting "One Hot Latin Night" on Friday, September 30th. We will be going out for our Friday night party and packages are on sale now for this event!!! Each package includes a one hour private lesson with a DanceSport VA instructor, dinner at Acapulco's and an evening of dancing with the instructors to a live Latin band at Acapulco's. ~~Saturday, August 27th - The Tidewater Swing Dance Club is hosting a dance on Saturday, August 27th (a week from tomorrow) at Shall We Dance Studio in Virginia Beach!  This will be our regular West Coast Swing dance with a twist. For the first time, we'll be teaching a dance other than West Coast Swing! Night Club 2 Step.  (NC2) is a smooth, small-area, dance done to slow music. (Small-area means that it does not travel around the floor like Country 2 Step.) NC2 is used at many West Coast Swing dances (especially out west) to compliment a night of WCS dancing. The lesson will begin with the basics and progress into a more complex pattern.  So, come on out for a great night of West Coast Swing dancing and improve your Night Club 2 Step too!
