~~~~ About "DanceSport VA" - The DanceSport VA studio is located on Arrowhead Drive between Princess Anne and Newtown Rd. From the Expressway take an exit onto Newtown Road South, turn left on Princess Anne then Right onto Arrowhead just past Big Al's muffler. The parking lot is not large but there are plenty of nearby business with parking room at night and on Sundays.  One, very convenient parking area is in front of the small "strip mall" which fronts on Princess Anne, only a hundred feet or so from the studio, on Arrowhead.

The studio has a large (3000 sq ft) dance floor as well as a separate smaller (2000 sq ft) dance floor. It is a very clean, well maintained studio. They also have dance shoes and apparel for sale. They have a very good Air Conditioning system. The DanceSport staff has been very supportive of us and will make everyone feel welcome. We have been assured that we can have Sunday night without interruption throughout the year.  Note:  Two Step Tidewater Virginia is NOT affiliated with DanceSport VA, or with ANY dance studio.  We simply rent dance floor space for our dances.  We hope everyone who has enjoyed the social dance on Sunday will continue to attend. We will do everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Dance tip of the week:

Dancing with the stars, Dance Off - A review by me...

Is it just me or does John O'Hurley look better in a Tux than Spandex! John needs to stick to Smooth dance in the future. Everyone excels somewhere so why show off your weak dance style? And yes, even in Smooth dance John looked a little stiff. John also needed a more neutral facial expression.
Too much acting but if that's your profession....

Kelly dressed a little better this time but she and Alec still tried to sell the sex appeal over dancing. Her Latin/Rhythm was ok but her Theater Arts was better. She was better off not trying to sell elegant. It wouldn't suit her. Lifts, drops & tricks and Funky dress seemed to be their strong points....

The Dance Off was not just a dance off between couples. It was also a dance off between generations & dance styles. So who won my review? I had to agree with the audience and picked John & Charlotte. In judging the dancing everything was about even and, I was just as disappointed in both. I guess I just wanted to see some good clean dancing without the tricks. I did get some good dancing when Kelly and Alec danced their first Cha-Cha and then again when John & Charlotte danced their Waltz otherwise, the dancing this time didn't work for me.

So why did I pick John & Charlotte? The difficulty level of an Amateur Leader vs. the difficulty level of an Amateur Follower. John could not afford to be along for the ride. Kelly could rely more on her partner to carry her. The difference was just enough to tip the scales for me.

It sure was nice to see the pros dance together. That Smooth routine with Charlotte & Nick was great! Seeing the pros dance together woke up many non-dancers to what it's all about. I think Alec's Samba partner was Edyta who danced with Evander during the first show. She looked happier this time! The real winner is Ballroom Dancing.

If you have no base pass, or the old pass expired, you will have to go to the Lasalle Ave. Gate pass office and have them call the Officer's Club 766 1361 and ask for Larry Bonner or Becky (head cashier) to be sponsored on the base. This has to be done between the hours of 10 A.M. and 2:30 P.M.  Roberto will be there some Sundays for brunch and some Wednesday nights.

~~ Every Wednesday - Mitty's @ the Omni Hotel in Newport News every Wednesday night.  Cindy Parks, of Country Bootlegger Dance Studio in Yorktown, will be teaching Country and Western Line Dancing and Partner Dancing every Wednesday.  Doors open at 7:00 PM and there is NO COVER CHARGE if you arrive before 9:00 PM.  Free Dance lessons start at 9:00 PM.  Great music for both Line Dancers and Country and Western Partner dancing.
