The song of the week is a pretty decent Salsa number I picked up this week
Roberto Roena - Como te hago Entender.

Good beat & not too fast.

The dance tip of the week:
~~ Turns, Lead from the top but turn from the base.~~
This is a very simple reminder about leading and completing turns. When the leader wants the
follower to turn the lead is usually from the connection with the leader's hand. If in closed it
may come from the hand connection on the lady's back. If from open it can come from the connection
with the lady's right hand. In both cases this is only meant to be a lead and the lead is only an
indication of what the man is wanting in timing and direction of the turn. A good lead should be:
1 - Clear and concise
2 - Timed enough in advance of the turn to give the lady warning but not so far in advance that she
will not know when to turn.
3 - The lead should occupy about one beat of music.
4 - The lead should change from a lead to a follow after the lady recognizes the lead.

Once the man has properly led the turn it is up to the lady to complete the turn. The turning
action should involve the dynamics of the lower part of the body. Any type of prep action
associated with the lead (as in swing & 2-step) should be used to only set up the hips and legs for
the turn. Attempting to "throw" yourself  into a turn, using your arms, shoulders and rib cage,
will knock you off balance. A quick practice involves standing in one spot with the feet slightly
apart and weight only on your right. Without engaging the shoulders and rib cage use your hips to
rotate to the right. Start with a partial turn and work up as you improve. With the left foot
lightly touching the floor you will be able to catch your balance if needed.
When dancing your turns should be:
1 - Smooth, well balanced and on time.
2 - In the proper direction. Traveling dances (2-Step, etc) are down the line of dance and on the
dance track. Latin type pivot turns are back to face your partner (usually)
3 - Without assist from the man.
4 - Without pushing your raised arm higher than needed.
5 - Without tilting your shoulders ( which tilts your spine)
6 - Without grabbing the man's hand for balance.

Clean, well led and well executed turns are easy with enough practice. Once your turns are
perfected you will use less energy than before.

Note:
Additions to our emailed "other venue" dances will be included at our discretion.
Not included will be:

1 - Dances located in non-dance businesses (Bars, Night Clubs, etc.) They can afford their own
advertising and never promote our dances.
2 - Dances that conflict with our schedule
3 - Dances run by instructors and/or studios engaged in unethical lesson sales.
4 - Dances run by instructors/studios/individuals that do not promote our social dances as a return
favor.
5 - Dances that I do not know about. I can't include them if I don't know of them.

We promote venues that offer a clean, well run social dance atmosphere. As a rule, although we
promote dances at different venues, we do not promote studios or instructors other that those we
work with and trust.

Any other ideas???   Mail it to us:     ( Walter & Judy Schultz or Will Harper
