Tips Menu
In order to travel in the Hampton Roads Virginia Area you need to understand our many different Highway and Bridge Tunnel systems. Below is a list with links enclosed:
* Inner and Outer Loops (Hampton Roads Beltway)
* Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel - This provides the main interstate (I-64) access from the Virginia Peninsula and The Southside Virginia area. the HRBT as it is mostly referred to is too often backed up with up to 1-1/2h delays.
* Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel - This newer complex provides an alternate link between the Peninsula and the Southside. It is seldom backed up but it's Southern terminus is still 1/2 hour or more from the Virginia Beach city Line.
* The Downtown tunnel and the Midtown tunnel - Both of these tunnels provide a link between Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. The Downtown Tunnel uses I-264 while the Midtown tunnel uses US58. There are both advantages and disadvantages to using both. Rush hour traffic remains moving slow but steady unless there has been an accident. The downtown tunnel is also subject to bridge lift delays.
* The James River Bridge - Situated further west in the Hampton Roads area this complex provides a link to US17. If you do not mind a slower scenic route this is not too bad of a route.
* I-64 - The main East/West Interstate Highway linking Hampton Roads to points West. At the far Eastern end of this road it fishhooks back toward the West terminating at Bower's Hill. Drivers are traveling in a compass direction opposite the highway sign directions. This causes much confusion when attempting to give directions.
* I-264 - This road starts in the Bower's Hill section of Chesapeake and ends at the Virginia Beach Ocean Front. The section in Norfolk/VA Beach was once called the Expressway. This is a multi-lane highway that is often clogged during the morning and evening rush hours. Unfortunately, too often the highway and the water crossing use the non-rush hours to perform repairs slowing down your travel anyway.
* I-664 - This is the newest Interstate Highway in our area. It starts at the Bowers Hill section of Chesapeake and ends on the Peninsula at I-64. The only water crossing is the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel. This route is seldom backed up except a little during the evening rush hour. It provide a good link to the Bower's Hill area.
* I-464 - This route provides a link between I-64 east of the Elizabeth river Southern Branch to I-264 at the Downtown Tunnel. The highway is seldom backed up and is a popular route when driving from the Elizabeth City area to downtown Norfolk.
The Newtown Road exit is located off a protected turn lane that begins well before Newtown Road.
When headed East on I-264 toward Virginia Beach from Norfolk the stay to the far right after crossing the Broad Creek Bridge. Take the first Newtown Road exit the a right at the bottom of the ramp.
If traveling West on I-264 from Va. Beach to Norfolk stay to the far right at the Witchduck Road exit. Take the Newtown Road exit and make a left at the bottom of the ramp.
If you are on I-64 headed away from Chesapeake toward Norfolk just take the Virginia Beach exit and stay to the right. Take the Newtown Road exit and make a left at the bottom of the ramp.
If you are on I-64 headed away from Norfolk you will take the first set of exits to the right then stay to the left at the split. It's well marked for Newtown Road. At the end of the ramp stay to the right. Take the Newtown Road exit and make a left at the bottom of the ramp.
Once on Newtown Road headed South make a left at the Princess Anne/Kempsville Road intersection. Then a right onto Arrowhead Drive after the railroad tracks.
Please note the Hampton Roads Beltway Designations
The parking lot is large enough for about 30 cars but there are plenty of nearby business with parking room at night and on Sundays. We share a parking lot with a small carpet supply store. If they are open please do not park in front of their entry door.
Parking at Lucky Dogz is not permitted by the owner of the business even if you shop there.
