Break turns - Turning in the opposite direction of forward foot. Step forward right, turn left. Sometimes called a "step turn."
Pivot Turns - Turning in the same direction as the forward foot – pivot turns can be in 4th position or 3rd position. When traveling forward, the
dancer steps forward left to turn left or forward right to turn right. When traveling backward, the dancer steps back on the left to pivot turning
right,
and steps back on the right to turn left.
Torque Turn (reverse of a pivot turn) – Step forward on left foot to turn RIGHT and still continue the movement in the direction you were
traveling (as in count “2” for the Follow in WCS Whip) OR step forward on right to turn LEFT
Chaine’ Turn – A ballet term that describes a style of execution that fits several different turns. Chaine’ means CHAIN, a closing of the feet
to
an opening of the feet.
Spin
- A
full rotation (360º or more) on one foot
Pencil
Turn - Turning in place on ONE foot while the other foot stays
pressed close in 1st position, but does not touch the floor.
Paddle Turn – weight is centered directly over one foot while the other foot executes a little “pushing” movement that keeps the body turning.
There is a ‘lilt’ of the CPB that allows the CPB to stay over the weighted foot. Paddle turns always start with a “pivot” action and then move
into
the paddle.
Hook Turn – Hook is a foot position that places one foot behind the other in a way that requires the toe of the ‘hooking’ foot to come in past
the
heel and nestle near the outside arch of the foot.
Cross Turn – Facilitating a cross turn relies heavily on “turn technique.” In a Left cross turn, the right foot crosses over the left foot
landing toe first, parallel to, and almost touching the left foot. The right knee is slightly bent. Pressing the heel of the right foot and the toe of
the left foot down into the floor forces the calves’ together as the right knee straightens. This action initiates a rotation of the body to the left.
This
rotation will take the body ¾ of a complete turn. To complete the turn, the
heel and toe pressures reverse.
LINE DANCE ON LINE VIDEOS
For the time being, Line Dance On Line is no longer producing videos on demand. However there are still many available for purchase. If you are new to line dancing, or have a difficult time with reading the step descriptions, we can help you. We also have a variety of instruction videos available for patterned partner dances and Night Club Two Step. All dances are taught with specific instructions and easy to follow patterns, just as if you were having a private lesson in your own home. Please visit our web site www.linedanceonline.com or contact us via at videos@linedanceonline.com for a complete list of dances available.
Our ability to care for each other is an amazing thing, and we take it for granted. They say it 'takes a village to raise a child', and we all know that our lives, our businesses, our goals and our dreams depend on the quality of our relationships. This week, take action, take a risk, to improve the quality of your most important relationships. . --- Philip E. Humbert, PhD

OUR POLICY: Webmasters; You are granted permission to copy any content from our web site, provided that you provide a link to http://www.twosteptidewater.com (Contact us by email if you would like a reciprocal link). We are always looking for ways to make Two Step Tidewater Virginia THE PLACE for dance information in the Tidewater area (Norfolk VA, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake VA, Suffolk VA, Portsmouth VA, Newport News VA, Hampton va, Hampton Roads VA, Yorktown VA, Gloucester VA, Jamestown VA, and Williamsburg VA) - and for other dance events or dance locations which are of interest to Tidewater (Southside and Peninsula) area Hampton Roads dancers. We prefer to exchange links with other dance-information sites. To add a dance link, or exchange links with your web pages, email Will Harper or Walter Schultz. Worthy dance events, may post to our web site by emailing a cut-and-paste ready announcement. Your announcement can be just a text announcement or even a full web page. We will host an ongoing web page, at no cost, for Tidewater Area dance-related activities, without their own web page. Be sure to include date, time, cost, contact and location information for your event. In exchange, we ask that anyone posting to our site, include a reference to www.twosteptidewater.com on your site and/or in your intra-group's mailing list emails. (Not just C&W. We'll include Ballroom, Swing, WCS, Disco, Folk, or just churches or other clubs with dances.) We will attempt to post/remove events within a couple of days - but we cannot accept responsibility for missing an event or any other reason. We will attempt to verify ALL links, to prevent any offensive or off-topic links, but, again, cannot be responsible for other's.
